AT&T to Stop Free Tethering

AT&T to stop customers from tethering their mobile devices
- AT&T decided to take action against those who tether their smart phones to obtain free Internet access. The company found a new way to track customers who are illegally tethering their mobile devices to another wireless device.
AT&T will start charging people that they find using tethering software. The company will start making people pay for a service upgrade if someone is tethering their mobile device to get free Internet service.
AT&T did not disclose how it is able to determine if a user is illegally tethering their smart phone. The company already sent a message to several customers ordering them to cease the use of tethering software. If a customer decides to ignore the order, their phone bill will automatically be charged for the higher priced service.
AT&T customers are given three options with the new directive. They can stop tethering their mobile device altogether. Customers also have the option of just paying to subscribe to the upgraded service plan. Or, if they choose to just ignore the request to stop tethering, they will be placed on the tethering plan at the upgraded price by default.
Many users try to obtain free Internet service by tethering to a mobile device. It allows users to use their smart phone for Internet access on other mobile devices without having to pay for the upgraded service.
